Richard Tiffany Gere (born August 31,1949) is an American actor. He first became famous during the 1980s, after appearing in several successful Hollywood films, including An Officer and a Gentleman.

During the 1990s and 2000s, he starred in a number of films including Pretty Woman, Summersby, Primal Fear and Runaway Bride.

In 2003 he won a Golden Globe Award as Best Actor Motion Picture Musical/Comedy for Chicago.

In July 2006, Richard Gere was cast opposite Jesse Eisenberg and Terrence Howard in Spring Break in Bosnia, a comic thriller in which he will play a journalist in Bosnia; the film will be released in 2007.

He was married to supermodel Cindy Crawford from 1991 to1995 but In 2002 he married actress Carey Lowell.
